Purim is a fun Jewish holiday celebrated on March 7th. It remembers a story from long ago in Persia, where a brave queen named Esther and her cousin Mordechai saved the Jewish people from a bad guy named Haman. People celebrate by dressing up in costumes, having parties, and playing games. They also give gifts of food to friends and help those in need. In synagogues, they read the story of Esther from a special scroll. During the reading, whenever Haman's name is mentioned, everyone makes noise to drown it out. It's a joyful time of happiness and sharing.

How to celebrate Purim?

On Purim, you can dress up in fun costumes and have a great time with friends and family. You might get to eat yummy cookies called hamantaschen. You can go to a party or a parade where everyone sings and dances. At the synagogue, when someone reads the story of Esther, make noise with a noisemaker called a grogger anytime you hear the name Haman. You can also give food gifts to friends and give some to people who need help. It's a happy day, full of laughter and joy, where we celebrate being brave and kind.
